Remedial Building Works refers to the specialised type of rectification and corrective actions for buildings with defects, particularly involving significant structural and/or water ingress issues.
The proper and effective rectification of structural issues which are often caused by water ingress and ongoing exposure to excessive moisture. The structural integrity, stability, and possibly safety, of the building, or part of the building, such as a balcony, may be compromised and deteriorating.
Concrete cancer is caused by the steel reinforcement ( Reo) within the concrete structure begins to rust due to water leaks or poorly poured substrate allowing moisture to seep into cracks/voids. As the steel rusts it expands therefore displaces the surrounding concrete causing it to become brittle and cracked which exacerbates the issue.
Rising damp occurs when moisture from the ground travels up through the walls by capillary action, meaning that the ground water is getting sucked up into the masonry walls. This water contains salts, when this area starts to dry out the salts will evaporate into the atmosphere leaving a white flaky substance on the wall. Continuance of the wetting and dry action will result in brick fretting/crumbling and internal linings bubbling.
Water ingress is when water from outside makes its way into a building or structure. It can occur in properties in several different ways and for many different reasons.
